Kolkata, 17 September 2007 - SunTechnics GmbH, one of the world’s leading renewable energy system providers, announced new ventures and expansion plans for East India at the official inauguration of their regional branch office today, attended by decision-makers and key industry players. The new office, located in Kolkata, marks a significant and strategic move by SunTechnics to tap East India’s vast opportunities for harnessing renewable energy in geographically remote areas.
Stefan Mueller, Managing Director of SunTechnics Asia-Pacific said, “We are extremely pleased to open our fifth branch office in East India. As a region with up to 10, 000 villages without any source of electrical supply, Assam has a potential output of 400 MW of photovoltaic power. With the Government of India continuing to strengthen its support for clean energy initiatives, this could entail up to 30, 000 systems being installed over the next few years.”
Speaking at the official office opening, Chief Guest S P Gon Chowdhury, Director of the West Bengal Renewable Energy Development Agency of India explained, “With its strong legacy of reliable, innovative products and customer-oriented solutions, SunTechnics India possesses a unique and unparalleled combination of engineering expertise and customer focus. SunTechnics India is thus in a prime position, both geographically and technically to provide sustainable and economically viable solutions for reliable electricity in widespread parts of India.”
SunTechnics India has established several projects in the East, with the Rabi Rashmi Project being a key development. Established in partnership with Mackintosh Burn Ltd., a construction company based in Kolkata, this initiative will generate photovoltaic power to meet the domestic lighting needs of 25 households and one community centre. The company is also looking at expanding its future reach and presence to the Patna and Guwahati areas. |
