Bangalore, 16 June 2008 – In conjunction with World Environment Day on 5 June 2008, SunTechnics India, a brand subsidiary of stock-listed Conergy AG, initiated an afforestation campaign with a tree-planting ceremony held in Indiranagar Park in Bangalore. The ceremony was held in conjunction with the United Nations Billion Tree Campaign, which aspires to plant seven billion trees by 2009 as a collective response to global warming.
Dr S. Aswath, Joint Director of Horticulture in Bangalore and Guest-of-Honor at the event said, “We appreciate these efforts to sustain the environment and our depleting natural resources. These are values we support and wish to bring forth to our current and future generations. In driving these initiatives for a low-carbon economy, Conergy has added great value for our community and set a positive example for other businesses and individuals.”
More than 200 guests gathered at the ceremony to commemorate environmental conservation with friends and families. Dr S. Aswath led the proceedings by planting four trees in the park. A further 130 trees were also distributed to participants, who were given directions on how to plant the trees at subsequent places of their choosing. Later on this week, guests will also be issued with complimentary copies of a documentary and short film on global warming, produced by Conergy.
Rajesh Bhat, Managing Director of Conergy India explained, “In addition to renewable energies, tree-planting and afforestation campaigns have been earmarked as the most efficient solutions to widespread carbon offsets. We are honoured to have the support of the Bangalore administration and enthusiastic public in this campaign, which not only celebrates the environment, but also the inspiration and compassion of a caring and involved community.”
In 2007, SunTechnics India held a walkathon in Bangalore to commemorate World Environment Day. The event was well-received by over 200 guests, who gathered in support of sustainable and healthy lifestyles. |
